What if families handled finances like the federal government does?
This is how I explain everything about the debt. For some reason, big numbers confound a lot of people in conversation. It’s easier to break it down to something their familiar with. However, sadly you sometimes come across people that have never handled a simple household budget either.
…Because countries are families.

I guess if we wanted a role model for debt, we should follow in Algeria and Iran’s footsteps, it seems as though they have the lowest debt by GDP…
This isn’t saying countries are analogous to families, though that would be a good way to look at it. All this does is put the numbers in a form people can more easily understand. It should be enough to recognize that debt is not a responsible thing to get into, and excessive spending only makes it worse.
Definitely a good point there about the excessive spending. Too bad both sides of the aisle are so entrenched in their own beliefs that neither can get anything done…
